A new wellness initiative is making preventive health screening more accessible than ever, as Universal Health partners with SMRT Trains and Stellar Lifestyle to launch the W3LL Station at Esplanade MRT. This first-of-its-kind facility offers free, non-contact health screenings in just 60 seconds, seamlessly integrating wellness checks into commuters’ daily routines.
The initiative aligns with Singapore’s National Mental Health and Well-being Strategy and aims to enhance preventive care at the population level. By leveraging data-driven insights, W3LL Station seeks to improve overall community health, particularly as the country faces an ageing population.
Preventive care, made effortless
With chronic illnesses responsible for around 75% of global deaths annually, early detection and intervention are critical. Universal Health’s W3LL Station provides a simple way for individuals to assess key health indicators – including blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, stress, anxiety, and depression – without the need for wearables or invasive procedures.
“Universal Health is committed to transforming how communities engage with preventive care. By making wellbeing screenings accessible to our communities regardless of their ability to pay, we’re improving health literacy and promoting healthy behaviours to shape a healthier society through technology and data-driven innovation,” said Clara Chen, Founder of Universal Health.
The station uses Remote Photoplethysmography (rPPG), a technology that employs optical sensors to detect vital signs by analysing subtle skin colour changes caused by blood flow. Users undergo a quick 60-second scan involving face and voice recognition to receive real-time insights on their well-being. Importantly, the system does not identify users, and all data is deleted immediately after the results are provided.
Expanding wellness accessibility
Esplanade MRT is the first location to host the W3LL Station, with plans to deploy 10 stations across Singapore by the end of the year. Singapore Management University (SMU) will be the next venue to introduce the wellness screening system from 10 March.
“At SMRT, we are committed to Doing Right, Doing Good, and Doing Well for our commuters and the communities we serve. We are proud to partner with Universal Health in unveiling the first W3LL Station at Esplanade MRT. This community-focused initiative brings wellness to the forefront of public spaces, making it easily accessible within our MRT station,” said Lam Sheau Kai, President of SMRT Trains.
Upon completing the scan, users receive a personalised screening report with self-management tips, expert recommendations, and referrals to healthcare providers – all at no cost. To encourage continued well-being, the station also offers wellness perks from local brands.
Bridging the gap in digital health adoption
While mobile health apps have gained popularity, high attrition rates – up to 74% – remain a challenge. With over 20,000 wellness apps on the market, W3LL Station presents a physical alternative that eliminates barriers such as app fatigue and digital disengagement.
By embedding preventive care into everyday environments, Universal Health hopes to make health monitoring a seamless, routine practice. Whether a daily commuter or a passerby, individuals can now take just one minute to gain valuable insights into their health—paving the way for a more wellness-conscious society.
